Text: Numbers 8:1 – 12:16

Size: 11"x14"

Parashat (Torah Portion) Beha’alotcha outlines the instructions given to Aaron for constructing the golden menorah, the seven-flame lampstand for the Tabernacle and, later, the Temple. The Levites are then given their divine authority to serve in the Tent of Meeting, and the Israelites continue to wander the wilderness. They followed when the presence of God, in the form of a cloud, drifted along toward the Promised Land, and they made camp when the cloud rested over the Tabernacle. In the final aliyah (reading), Aaron and Miriam speak against Moses for marrying an outsider; God hears and reacts in anger. God punishes Miriam with white scales on her skin; Moses cries out to God, “El na r’fa na la – please, God, heal her now!” God tells Moses and Aaron to shut her out of the camp for seven days, then she will be healthy and may rejoin, and the Israelite camp could continue their travels in the wilderness.

This piece can be personalized with an inscription of the name and date of a Bar or Bat Mitzvah! Be sure to include the spelling of the Hebrew name if possible (to type in Hebrew: http://www.branah.com/hebrew ).
