Text: Exodus 13:17 – 17:16

Size: 11"x14"

Parashat (Torah Portion) Beshalach gives us the story of the Israelites arriving at the Sea and seeing the Egyptian army coming up behind them. The people cry out to Moses, to cries out to God, who tells Moses to lift his staff in his hand over the water, and the Israelites would cross on dry land. Moses follows God’s instructions, and walls of water rise out of the sea, creating a path for the Israelites to walk across. The Egyptians pursue, but as soon as the Israelites have all crossed, God commands Moses to lift his staff over the water again, and the waves fall on the Egyptians, drowning them, chariots and all. The Israelites then raise their voices in song, and the Song of the Sea (or the Song of Miriam) starts in Miriam’s hair in the piece.
