Parashat (Torah portion) T’rumah outlines God’s instructions for building the Mishkan, the Tabernacle. God first instructs Moses to tell the Israelites whose heart so moves them to bring gifts of gold, silver, copper, colored yarns and linens, skins, acacia wood, spices, precious stones, and other fine materials for building a sanctuary and its furnishings to become the Mishkan. The Ark of the Covenant was to be made of acacia wood, overlaid with gold, and would hold the tablets that outlined God’s commandments. The six-branched, seven-flame lamp – the menorah – was to be made of pure gold, and the curtains of the Mishkan were to be made of fine blue, purple, and crimson linen, and attached to the gold-plated acacia beams with gold rings.
